5 Things You Can Do Now to Get a Head Start on a 2027 Home Purchase

My friend Carter Campbell of Houzd Mortgage is sharing some helpful info with us today, and I couldn’t agree with him more.

If you’re hoping to buy your first home, move into a new one, or pick up an investment property in 2027, you have about three months left this year to get a head start. The good news is that you don’t need a big overhaul. A few small steps now can make a real difference when you’re ready to start looking.

Here are five things you can do today:

  1. Review your credit. Pull your reports and give yourself time to address anything that could affect your options. Even small issues can take a little while to fix, so the earlier you look, the better.

  2. Practice your future payment. If you expect your housing payment to be higher than what you pay now, try putting that difference into savings each month. You’ll build up your down payment or reserves, and you’ll find out how the new payment feels before you commit to it.

  3. Trim one spending habit. You don’t have to give up everything you enjoy. Just pick one expense, whether it’s a subscription, takeout, or something else, and redirect that money toward your savings.

  4. Consider postponing one big purchase. A vacation or a new car can be tempting, but waiting could help you reach your home goals sooner. A new car loan, in particular, can change how much home you qualify for.

  5. Make a plan. Sit down with a lender and talk through your budget, savings, and timeline so you know exactly what to work on before you start looking.

You don’t need to have everything figured out today. But a little preparation now can give you more confidence when the right opportunity comes along.

Whether you’re planning a purchase or simply have a question about your current mortgage, Carter and I are both happy to help. Leave a comment, shoot me an email, or send me a text, and we’ll help you talk through whatever’s on your mind.
