December Events In Salt Lake City

We’re so close to December! The last few years we’ve taken a vacation for a large chunk of December and I’ve missed many of the holiday traditions I love here in Salt Lake City. We’ll be home this year and I’m excited to introduce my son to many of my favorites. Here are a few:

1. Salt Lake Acting Company’s Annual Children’s Play

Each year in December Salt Lake Acting Company puts on a productions for children. This year it runs from November 30 - December 30 and it’s “Pinkalicious the Musical.” This one may not be up my son’s alley, but I know it will be excellent. SLAC never disappoints.

2. ZooLights

Hogle Zoo hosts ZooLights nightly from November 30th until December 31st. It’s so fun to walk the zoo at night with a mug of hot chocolate. The lights are fun and seeing the animals when you normally can’t is fun too.

3. The Nutcracker

From December 14 - 29 you can see Ballet West’s annual production of the Nutcracker. My grandmother and uncle took me to this show for the first time when I was around eight years old. It was a magical night for sure.

4. Temple Square Lights

After I saw the Nutcracker as a child we walked the grounds of the Salt Lake City Temple and saw their light displays. They were beautiful then and they still are today. Regardless of your religious persuasion, this is always worth the trip.

This is my favorite time of year. It's birthday season in my family and I have always loved the magic of gift giving. May you enjoy it as much as I do! Happy holidays to you and your loved ones!
