I recently had the privilege of touring 279 10th Ave in the Avenues neighborhood of Salt Lake City. I love when I get to see homes where the original details have been preserved and this was one of them.

From the outset this home did not disappoint. It had a lovely entry with staircase, the living room had the original bookcases, leaded glass windows and fireplace insert, and the dining room had the original built-in china hutch.

I think part of the reason I love these old homes so much is the details they offer. Just look at the textures in this one leaded glass window!

And so many of the doorknobs are amazing too. And the closet spaces. I appreciate that it’s not a box. It has angles and interest.

And upstairs is a lovely balcony overlooking the city. Such a sweet spot.

Another thing I love about old homes are the mysteries they offer. Sometimes it’s trying to figure out where the original house ends and additions begin, or where walls have been shifted. This house didn’t disappoint. It had two separate fireplaces that have both been painting and/or retiled. The second fireplace looks like the original tiles were a lovely green of the era. I wonder what they were in the front.
